UAE Family Residence Visa – Families Must Stay Together

Getting a family residence visa is the best option for individuals looking to bring their families to UAE. If you are a working individual, you may be eligible for a family residence visa, which allows your spouse and children to live in the UAE. A short-term visa, for instance, a Tourist Visa, is comparatively expensive, and the person has to exit the country within a short period. Therefore, short-term visas are not suitable for families willing to settle in the UAE. A family residence visa reduces such hassles and allows approved individuals to stay in UAE for the long term.

Wondering how the visa process works? Well, let's find out.

Step-By-Step Visa Process

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on various stages of visa processing-

  • File Opening- First, the applicant must open the file for visa application with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs by making a payment of approx. AED 260 for one family.
  • Entry Permit Application- The next step is entry permit application, where the applicant must apply for the entry permit for the dependants. If the dependants are outside UAE at the time of application, the cost for an entry permit would be AED 500 approx. However, if the dependants are inside UAE, the price goes up to AED 1200 approx.
  • Change Of Status for Inside Country Applicants– If the dependants are inside UAE, they must also apply for a change of status before appearing for the medical test.
  •  Medical Fitness Test- Every applicant above 18 years of age must undergo a mandatory medical fitness test for a residence visa to UAE.
  • ID Card– After clearing the medical fitness tests, the applicants can then apply for Emirates ID Card. The charges for UAE ID Card is approx. AED 180 for 1 year, AED 280 for 2 years, and AED 380 for 3 years.
  • Visa Stamping– Finally, if all documents are approved, the authorities will stamp the visa and approve the family residence visa for the applicants.
